Rethinking Pain Relief:
Why Invasive Options Aren’t Always the Answer
If you’re struggling with chronic pain, you might assume that your only real treatment options are more invasive procedures such as surgery or long-term medication use. And while there are certainly situations where these options are necessary, they aren’t always the best solution. In fact, many common musculoskeletal conditions, including back pain, joint stiffness, or tendon injuries, respond well to conservative care.
What exactly is conservative care? It refers to approaches like manual therapy, exercise therapy, movement adjustments, and other techniques that aim to improve long-term pain without the risks and long recovery times associated with surgery or medication.
Choosing a non-invasive approach allows the body to recover while improving strength, mobility, and control. It also reduces exposure to potential risks such as medication side effects or surgical complications.
At Expert Physio Plus, care focuses on helping you move better, feel better, and stay active without relying on invasive procedures unless necessary.

Five Reasons to Choose Conservative Care
1. Addresses the Root Cause of Pain
Pain is often a symptom of a problem, not a condition in and of itself. Conservative care focuses on identifying contributing factors such as joint stiffness, muscle weakness, or poor movement patterns, then addressing these factors through exercise, hands-on techniques, and movement retraining.
2. Supports Natural Healing Processes
The body has a strong ability to heal when given the right stimulus. Controlled, targeted movement encourages healing processes by improving blood flow to the damaged area, delivering the nutrients the tissue needs to repair and desensitizing the nervous system’s response.
3. Reduces Dependence on Medication
Pain medications help reduce symptoms, but they don’t improve function or address underlying issues. Our approach can help decrease pain sensitivity over time while giving you the tools you need to understand your pain and manage it more confidently.
4. Improves Function and Daily Activity
At Expert Physio Plus, our goal isn’t just to mask your pain, but to improve your movement so you can more easily return to work, sports, or daily life.
5. Personalized, Whole-Person Care
Every person’s condition and goals are different, and our multidisciplinary approach allows collaboration across a range of non invasive options, including physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, and more. We tailor all treatment plans to meet your unique lifestyle and recovery goals, adjusting them as your needs change.

What Techniques Do We Use at Expert Physio Plus?
Our approach combines hands-on treatment with active rehabilitation strategies to help improve your outcomes while delaying or eliminating the need for invasive options like long-term medication or surgery. Here’s what you can expect:
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy involves hands-on techniques that improve access to movement and reduce discomfort. They often provide short-term relief, allowing you to engage with more active treatment.
Examples of manual therapy include:
- Passive stretching helps to restore mobility
- Joint mobilizations to improve stiffness
- Soft tissue techniques to reduce muscle tension
Exercise Therapy
Exercise is a cornerstone of noninvasive recovery. Our team will let you know which exercises will help with your specific needs. For example, gradual strengthening of the quadriceps can reduce knee pain and improve walking ability.
Exercise therapy generally involves:
- Strengthening exercises to support joints and reduce strain
- Mobility work to improve your range of motion
- Endurance training to build tolerance for daily activity
Education and Pain Science
Understanding pain can change how you experience it. We’ll help you understand how pain works in the nervous system, what your specific pain symptoms might mean and provide guidance to reduce your fear of movement so you can become more active. We’ll also guide you through strategies to help you gradually ease back into activities.

Multidisciplinary Support
Our team-based approach allows for comprehensive care that addresses multiple contributing factors. Some of the services we provide include:
- Physiotherapy focused on movement and rehabilitation
- Chiropractic care to address joint mechanics
- Massage therapy to support soft tissue recovery
- Acupuncture to help your body reset, recover, and feel more balanced
Structured Programs and Functional Training
We also offer several programs designed to help you return to meaningful activity, such as:
- Work conditioning for a safe return to job-related demands
- Postpartum and pelvic health programs to restore core and pelvic function
- Osteoarthritis programs to help with long-term symptom management
Make Your Recovery Count:
Tips to Maximize Your Care
When you’re dealing with pain, the right treatment plan can make a big difference. But what you do between your visits to Expert Physio Plus also plays an important role. Small, consistent actions can make a meaningful difference in how your body heals and performs.
Five Simple Ways to Help Improve Outcomes
1. Stay Consistent with Your Exercises
Your home program is a key part of recovery, so make sure to perform all exercises as prescribed, even if you’re feeling better. Focus on control and form, not speed, and gradually increase intensity as guided
2. Keep Moving Throughout the Day
Regular movement improves circulation and supports tissue healing, so try to stay as active as you can. This might mean:
- Taking short walking breaks
- Regularly changing positions
- Performing gentle mobility exercises
3. Understand Your Pain
Sometimes, pain can lead to a fear of movement, keeping you sedentary. It’s important to remember that pain doesn’t necessarily equate to damage. Our team can help you distinguish between mild soreness and the sharp pain that can indicate a problem, so you can stay active without fear.
4. Prioritize Sleep and Recovery
Rest is essential to healing! Aim for consistent sleep each night, and always build in a recovery period between high-intensity sessions.
5. Stay Engaged with Your Care Team
We see treatment as a collaborative experience. Don’t be shy: ask us questions during your sessions and let us know when you’re feeling better (or worse). Follow through with any guidelines and instructions.
Take Control of Your Recovery
Progress depends on daily habits as much as it does on in-clinic time. With the right support and consistent effort, you can improve strength, reduce pain, and return to the activities that matter most. Schedule an appointment at Expert Physio Plus today to get started.
Our Patients Get Great Results
“For the last 2 months I have been dealing with sciatica pain in my lower back. A sharp pinch and shooting pain that ran all the way down my leg. As a 22 year old I knew this was unusual so I googled the nearest physio in my area. Mina popped up and I started doing treatments right away. Mina offers a one-stop-shop service with a level of care from himself and his team that I have never seen before at any clinic or physio or even dental care for that matter. Over 7 treatments of 1.5 hours I was receiving exercises tailored to hip recovery we did at their gym, electronic shock wave therapy, cupping therapy, massage therapy, spinal stretches and educational content on why I was having this pain and how to improve it. After a month, I can say that I am pain free and can continue my daily activities. I referred my grandma who has been dealing with severe spinal pain and for the first time she told me she has slept so much better than in the last few years. This is service you will not receive anywhere else and I highly recommend Expert Physio Plus at 4965 Innes Rd Unit-1 to anyone dealing with pain in their body. My only worry is that their staff truly cares, we got along and I will miss seeing them as I don’t require treatment anymore.” – N.M.

- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- ¾ tsp cumin
- ¾ tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
- ¼ tsp salt
- Ground black pepper
- 2 tsp of olive oil
- ¼ c very finely diced yellow onion
- ¼ c diced green pepper
- ¼ c finely diced cilantro
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ c tomato sauce
- ½ tsp cumin
- ½ tsp coriander
- ¼ tsp ground turmeric
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 ¼ cs water
- ¾ c uncooked white rice
- avocado, sliced
- Greek yogurt
- Salsa or hot sauce
- Cilantro
- Diced green onion
- Lime wedges
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment/foil and lightly grease.
- Place salmon skin-side down, drizzle with olive oil and lime juice. Mix seasoning (sugar, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne, salt, pepper) and rub evenly over salmon.
- Set aside. For rice: heat olive oil in a pot over medium heat. Sauté onion, green pepper, cilantro, and garlic for 2–4 minutes.
- Add tomato sauce, cumin, coriander, turmeric, garlic powder, salt, and pepper; simmer 2 minutes. Add water, bring to a boil, stir in rice, cover, and cook on low 15–20 minutes until tender.
- Remove from heat, fluff, cover, and steam 10 minutes. While rice steams, bake salmon for 15–20 minutes (about 16–18 is ideal) until it flakes easily.
